At Hookline Books we let serious
book groups select the novels for
publication.
We begin the process with the
Hookline Novel Competition. This is
open only to students and graduates
of MA writing courses. The judges
are book groups from around the UK.
Writers submit the first three
chapters of their work and a brief
synopsis. These are bound in
collections and sent to book groups,
who have three months to read and
review them. The writers whose
works come out on top are then
asked to submit their complete
novels. Again, these are bound and
sent to book groups who rate them
on plot, character development,
writing style and reader satisfaction.
The 2010 competition is beginning,
and we are always in need of book
groups to participate.

The Tartarus Machine
by Frank Kennedy
The story follows a demoted banker who plots revenge on his employers
and is a timely analysis of the banking crisis – with parallels in Greek
mythology!
Readers said: “This is a remarkably quick-off-the-mark and original take
on the origins of the credit crunch and the global recession .“
“Not the sort of book I would normally read, but I was enthralled – learned
something too! I liked the comparison with Hades – thoroughly enjoyed it!”
The Tartarus Machine will be available in paperback and ebook later this
year.
